I had my flu vaccine today and it didn't hurt at all. I gave the nurse 10 out of 10 for performance. She said that as I had RA it was good that I'm getting it early in the season. I just wanted to post this to remind people about getting the injection. To all the newbies....this is something that needs serious consideration now that you've got RA and there are plenty of reliable information sources available on line. Naomi, X

I'm booked in for flu jab, athough my surgery didn't have me on the list and I had to ask for it. They checked the guidelines and said yes, they'd made a mistake in leaving me off - so it pays to check. They sent me a letter re the pneumonia jab, and I've just had that done. I can't remember if I qualified for that because of the MTX or the HDX - but anyway it did cause my arm to feel a bit bruised but trivial pain compared with RA flare, so worth having it done for peace of mind Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Lucky my work place pays for everyone who want a flu jab to have one. A doctor comes in and does it during lunch time so at least I don't need to take time off from work to go to my own GP surgery. I'm having it next tuesday

Hi, had mine yesterday, feels a bit sore today, but fine. Went to see the G.P. about something totally different, rarely I see him these days, always ring rheumy nurse with any probs, and he suggested doing it there and then, very nice chap, cancelledmy app for Nov now, saves me a trip!! Used to hate inj, but don't even think about them now, is that something possitive to come out of having R.A.????!!

It isn't too bad for an injection is it! Mind you, I had a rotten cold/flu before the jab and got another (mild) cold afterwards. Every little helps as the advert says. Good luck with the Anti-TNFs Jane. Angie Be yourself - everyone else is taken. XX

I was told by a nurse at the GP that the immunity issues of RA made flu jabs inadvisable

I think you should double check the nurses advice because it goes against every bit of professional advice I've heard, including from my rheumatologist and other rheumatologists. I think this nurse is out on a limb here.

i was told by Consultant and my GP that the flu jab is definately advisable .. so i would go and see your GP, i have that done yearly. it won't be available until around September now i should think.
i have also had the Pneumonia one last year.
Suzanne
P.S. and i was in a state as per usual for the first time but now i want it done as soon as available.

Mmm yes - sounds like dodgy advice from a GP practice nurse - talk to the specialist and get the up to advice - I too have my flu jab and have been really well this winter when all around me have been dropping like flies! found this old thread rather than start a new one,
i know most of us oldies know it's time for the flu jab .. but just a gentle reminder for anyone newly diagnosed that we are eligible for it.
had mine done this morning.
i also had the pneumonia one a couple of years ago on the advice of my GP.

Yep, I had mine this morning too, and my pneumonia jab two weeks ago, which my consultant insists on every seven years while on a biologic. Kathleen x

Always good to remind us. Mine is in 2 weeks time.
Remember if you are on anti tnf's you need to protect yourselves even more because of your immune systems been lowered due to anti tnf's.
